Councilwoman Emily Root was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Town Council in April 2022 and was elected November 8, 2022 by a 12-point margin of victory to serve out the one-year unexpired term. She is running for a full, four-year term in November 2023.
Councilwoman Root has established herself as a distinct voice and a fierce advocate for her Ward 1 constituents.
As a speech therapist, an adjunct professor at Rutgers and Kean universities and a step mom, she brings a unique set of skills and experience to the Town Council.
As a successful small business owner for two decades, Councilwoman Root understands her most important role as a member of the council is to serve as a good steward of our taxpayer dollars.
